Kenmore Residence

Opportunity

Slater Interiors was tasked with creating an open floor plan for a kitchen, living room, and dining room, as well as expanding the primary bedroom and adding a bathroom and walk-in closet. Despite the home's attractive mid-century design and Lake Washington view, the kitchen's odd layout and the dining room's separation from the rest of the living space posed significant design challenges. Additionally, the views were not visible from the kitchen and dining room.

Results

Slater Interiors transformed a cramped and outdated kitchen into the focal point of a new open space, with a 48-inch undermount sink selected to accommodate the client's concerns about cleanliness. The new design offers sweeping views of Lake Washington from the kitchen, dining room, and living room, while a fireplace in the corner ensures the views are unobstructed. The home's shared bathroom now serves only the kids and guest room, with the primary suite having its own dedicated bathroom. The space's beautiful vaulted ceilings were optimized to allow light and air to flow freely, contributing to the overall openness and airiness of the space.

Testimonial

Working with Melinda at Slater Interiors was a great experience. We have hired Melinda for two home remodel projects and I can’t imagine going through this process without her. Melinda brings her interior design and space planning expertise through a thoughtful process of engaging questions that allowed her to learn about our style and ways of wanting to live in our home. She also provided inspiration both with visual project boards and samples of products that allowed us to make decisions with confidence. Her process allowed us to create plans for our home remodel that was unlike what we could have imagined on our own. She was then able to collaborate with our architect and contractor to refine the plans. What I most appreciate about Melinda is her ability to have us dream big. She would say, “what is your ideal in this space?” This approach applied to both the space design and finishes. And we are so pleased with the final product.  Melinda brings patience and curiosity to the process.  When we were unsure she was able to lean in and provide the reassurance that we needed or she was able to bring additional options that allowed us to gain clarity on how we wanted our spaces to function.
